1843 MATURE HEAD 1C Copper Braided Head Large Cents

1843 was a transitional year for the cent, as the Petite Head bust of 1839-42 was replaced midyear with the Mature Head of 1844-57. The Small Letters reverse typical of earlier dates was also phased out in favor of the Large Letters style that continued into 1844 and subsequent years. The Petite Head dies were paired with either the Small or Large Letters reverse (see photos for the former), but all Mature Heads have Large Letters.
